The second single from The Nashville Record, ‘Butterfly’ gives a nod to a range of influences, from the sixties sounding Wurlitzer in the verses through to the kaleidoscopic guitar, intoxicating vocals and patterned drums of the outro. Throughout, it retains a hypnotic minimalism.
Like all the songs on the album, ‘Butterfly’ was written and recorded during lockdown and just after, both in Perth, WA and Nashville, Tennessee. The group of musicians who came together to flesh the track out added their unique stamp to it and the result will take you on a gentle yet vivid journey.
lyrics
Butterfly
V1
Oh the weight of life can be quite nice when it’s on me first thing in the morning.
And its face is your face and its hair is your hair, and it’s kissing my ear so gently.
Butterfly taking flight,
Time will stop,
Time is gonna stop.
Instrumental
V2
Ooh do you know, that the world is not built for sorrow?
Ooh, can you see that you’re not meant to do but to be?
Like a butterfly taking flight,
Outro
It’s gonna feel like, x 23
Time stopped.
