‘Be Bad’ is the first single from Catherine’s upcoming ‘Choose Your Own Light’ EP. These new songs weave in and around the themes of being surprised by finding joy in difficult times. Using love songs as a template to explore different sensations, emotions, and experiences as Traicos does so elegantly, this new EP sits somewhere between folk, pop, and rock.
A serendipitous outcome of being unable to join her bandmates in Sydney due to travel restrictions was that Traicos recorded these songs in Perth with Paul ‘Woody’ Wood (Red Jezebel, The Ghost Hotel) at Tiny Music Recording Studio. The music they have crafted has its delicate moments as well as its fiery ones. Overall, the songs that emerged reveal a lighter side of Traicos than we have heard before.
‘Be Bad’ features Gareth Skinner (Bzark, the Holy Sea) playing cello from a distance and Perth legend, Tara John (Schvendes, Joni in the Moon, Lucy Peach) on keys.
lyrics
Be Bad
Verse 1
Feel like dancing tonight, feels like nothing is quite going to be this way again.
I’ll wait for the wolves to depart, and those vampires at last, now the magic can start.
Pre Chorus 1
Oh I thought I knew you well,
Aint we all the devil in our own private hell?
Chorus 1
But you’re running like there’s some great prize to be had,
And you’re holding out for one last chance to be bad,
Baaaaaaaad, ooh
Be bad
Verse 2
Pity lay at the heart of our love, an apologetic dove dropped the branch into the mud
The buyers and the sellers of pain, one drinking in the rain, the other avoiding blame.
Pre Chorus 2
Our lives so mixed up I couldn’t tell,
What was yours till that image of you fell.
Chorus 2
Now you’re running like there’s some great prize to be had,
And you’re holding out for one last chance to be bad,
Baaaaaaaad, ooh
Be bad
Ooh
